Yummy Poached Egg & Avocado Breakfast!

Now that the weather is starting to cool down, my typical breakfast smoothie is no longer cutting it. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good frozen banana & chocolate protein yumminess to start the day, but it’s getting a little old and a little too cold. I’m a creature of habit when it comes to food, and once I find something I like I stick to it until I find a new obsession. Enter this recipe. I came across the idea of avocado on toast a while ago, but never got around to trying it. Wholly guacamole was I missing out!! Not only is it delicious, but it keeps me full all morning and is loaded with tons of healthy fats. About three days ago I decided to try adding a poached egg on top. The result: perfection.   Granted, I had never cooked a poached egg before, but YouTube eased my anxiety. Thanks Jamie Oliver! (check out his easy tutorial¬†here) This is totally worth giving a shot, and literally takes no time at …

Mermaid Inspired Nails

For some reason I’ve been obsessed with mermaids lately. I’m not sure if its their gorgeous long and flowing hair, or the fact that their shell bra’s reminds me of a bikini which, in turn, makes me think of the beach. Meaning, basically I’m jealous that these fictional characters live in a place so warm that all they need is two shells and a fork comb to look great. I think I can officially say the Polar Vortex has gotten to me. Until it’s warm enough to head into the ocean for a swim, the next best way to feel like Ariel is to paint my nails mermaid-esq. I decided to go with one of my favorite polishes Essie’s For The Twill Of It. The metallic sheen that changes colors in different settings is the perfect polish to mimic the changing color of a mermaid’s fin. To add some shine and a “scale” look, I used Hors D’oeuvres,¬†also by Essie. I love this glitter polish because it has both silver and gold which is totally …

Popping Tags and Taking Names

I’ve been living in my new apartment for about a month now, and I can proudly say all of my boxes are unpacked and all my belongings are stowed neatly away. The tidiness will only last for so long-,-I’m the organized mess type–but I’m going to revel in the empty floor space for as long as I can. The best part about being unpacked is being able to decorate!! I wanted to go with a really calm, relaxing vibe since my life is anything but. In my bedroom I’ve went with a gorgeous deep plum bedspread from Anthropologie. {I covet every single thing in that store, it’s one of my happy places.} I have a few candles, picture frames, and trinkets, but am still on the hunt for some great pieces to add to bring it all together. Perusing local vintage and thrift shops has taken up a lot of my free time the past few days and I don’t mind one bit. I love riffling through the record bins and don’t even get me …

August Favorites

August has brought on a lot of changes for me. I moved back to Indiana, into a new apartment with a new roommate, and had to learn how to use the city transit. FYI: it wasn’t as smelly as I thought, and is superb for people watching. It’s been a busy few weeks, but I have managed to find some new beauty and fashion related products. Here are my best of the best for the month!! 1.) The September issue of Vogue. It’s 902 pages of gloriousness boasts amaze-ball designer ads, a beautiful story about actress and cover model Jennifer Lawrence (pg. 790), and an incredible article about Amanda Lindhout (pg. 436), a woman who was kidnapped and held hostage in Somalia for 15 months! I picked the mag up in the airport and couldn’t put it down. It did add quite the weight to my carry on, but beauty is pain, right? 2.) Not Your Mother’s Beach Babe Texturizing Sea Salt Spray. Durring the hot summer months, I try to keep hot tools away …
